Coach Dales grew up in Tacoma, Washington and graduated from Bellarmine Prep High School. Soon after, he was a starting linebacker at Oregon State University for three years. He has established a career of teaching at the high school level, and coaching football for the last 30 years. Coach Dales has the honor of coaching:
Three Arizona State All-State Teams,
Two All-Star teams that played in Australia,
And, the 2005 Washington All-State Team.He and his wife Jackie were married in 1990, while living in Portland, Oregon. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they lived for 11 years. While there, Coach Dales earned his Masters of Education degree at Arizona State University. The Dales’ have two daughters, Danielle 15, and Taylor 13. The family returned to the Pacific Northwest in 2001 to be closer to family and coach with former Oregon State teammate and friend, Steve Gervais. As Head Coach, or Defensive Coordinator, Coach Dales has led teams to the state playoffs 19 of the past 23 years. Three of those teams played in the State Championship Game.
Coach Dales has been the Head Coach at Eastlake since 2005. He enters his 4th year with the Wolves having compiled a 22 – 3 regular season record, with an over-all record of 27 – 7. He has taken his teams to three straight playoff appearances along with two straight trips to the Washington State quarter-finals. He currently teaches physical education, weight training, and wellness classes at Eastlake. In his spare time, Coach Dales enjoys being with his family, playing golf, traveling, cooking, and an occasional nap. The week long preparation which culminates with Friday Night’s game execution, is the thrill and challenge that continues to spark his love for the game.
