In a hard rain at kickoff time the WFA board came up big with pop-up canopies over the stands. Thanks to Derrick Isackson and Bobby Cox for the early preparations!
The first quarter kickoff started off with a booming kick by Noah Weintraub to Monroe with no return. On the first series for the Bearcats the Wolves Scott Maule broke up a 15-yard pass to force a three and out.
Parker Barrysmith starting at quarterback for the first Wolves drive with Michael Lester having his first of many huge runs with a 30-yard scramble around the outside. The Bearcats took over on down later in the drive and Drew Farrington had a big sack dropping the quarterback for a 5-yard loss. After a short drive by the Bearcats the wolves took over on downs ant put together a strong drive lead by a Nathaniel Birchfield 15-yard run, a Barrysmith keeper for 25-yards, and a 8-yard touchdown pass from Barrysmith to Maule. Wolves up by 7 with the conversion.
Another booming kick by Weintraub with solid special teams play to pin the Bearcats on their own 15-yard line. With the Wolves defense shutting down the Bearcats with speed on the line and tight coverage downfield drives were difficult to put together early on.
At the end of the first quarter Wolves up by 7.
Maule defensively started off the second quarter with a huge 25-yard pick six. With the conversion Wolves up by 14. Jackson Marley had a big sack on the Bearcats next drive to break up the teams momentum, and later an Logan Eller interception with a 10 yard runback sealed any progress the Bearcats were looking to make.
The rain finally started to let up in the second quarter. Michael Kistner took over at QB and started the drive with dominating back to back 10-yard runs by Jack Peterson. Kistner then threw a 40-yard bomb to Weintraub who bolted past the coverage for big yardage. Kistner under heavy defensive pressure scrambled and threw a screen pass to Lester who maneuvered into the endzone for the touchdown.
With the flawless conversion kick Eastlake up 21 going into the half.
Barrysmith back in at quarterback to start the third quarter throwing a 11-yard pass to Cody Matson. During the same drive Lester had two big runs totaling 39-yards. Swing pass to Peterson for another 30-yards, and a 30-yard touchdown pass to Will Eaton. Weintraub with another conversion kick down the middle (making it look easy) to bring the Wolves score up to 28.
The Bearcats offense was just being outplayed physically and they ended up turning over on downs on their next drive. After taking over the ball Barrysmith had a 21-yard run to the Bearcats 1-yard line and threw a screen pass to Birchfield for the TD.
Wolves up 35 at the end of the third quarter.
Starting the fourth quarter the Bearcats put together a long drive brining them to the Wolves 5-yard line where the defensive line took a big stand by denying a touchdown in four downs.
The Wolves caped off their scoring with more big runs by Birchfield (32-yards combined) and Lester (44-yards combined) and a touchdown. Wolves up by 42.
The game ended with a spectacular Colin Baker interception on the Bearcats final drive.
