The Eastlake Wolves freshman team had a strong game Wednesday night beating the Stanwood Spartans 35-13 at Stanwood. After holding Stanwood in the opening kickoff, Eastlake put together a long drive down the field to score late in the first quarter behind runs by running backs Matt Brookshier and Johnny OLoughlin, quarterback Garrett Carney and receptions by receivers Ryan Curran, Ryan Cole, and Carson Davis to make the score 7-0.
The Spartans had a strong quarterback and receiver pair and were able to make a several deep throw and catches downfield on drives, but the Wolves held strong inside the red zone to keep the Spartans off the scoreboard for most of the game. The Eastlake offensive line gave interim quarterback Carney enough time to make throws that connected with Cole, Curran and Davis. It looked like Stanwood would score late in the first half and early in the second half, but their drives were thwarted by a pair of interceptions by Carney and one by Davis.
Overall it was a great outing on both sides of the ball for the improving Eastlake Freshman team. We are hoping for a healthy team with all players back for next Wednesday night game against Woodinville.
