The 1st quarter of the game was back and forth with both defenses keeping each other out of the end zone. The Wolves defense started strong in the 2nd with a fumble recovery on the 40 yard line. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to convert it into points but had a great punt pinning Woodinville to the 2 yard line. Woodinville’s hope of a scoring drive was short lived when Max Verboort intercepted them on the 40 for a pick 6. Eastlake had a perfect kick and went up 7-0 to start the 2nd quarter. Woodinville answered with a long drive and score with :14 seconds left tying the game 7-7 going into the half.
Woodinville started the 3rd quarter with a series of long runs ending in the end zone to go up 14-7. Eastlake’s offensive line responded giving Jackson Proctor and Leroy Jackson plenty of time to drive the distance and score on a pass to the left end zone to Zade Thompson. A close kick made it through to tie the game at 14-14. However, that tie didn’t last long as Woodinville came back quick with a long run to take the lead. They tried for a 2 point conversion but Chris Knutson made a game saving tackle at the 1 yard line to keep the score to 20-14.
Eastlake looked to struggle early in the 4th going out quickly on downs and giving up what looked to be another scoring drive by Woodinville. However, things changed quickly when Thompson intercepted Woodinville in the end zone. Eastlake took over on the 20 and in one play tied the game after Jackson Proctor threw a perfect pass to Verboort who made a fingertip catch and never broke his stride into the end zone. Eastlake went up 21-20 with just over 2 mins to play. The defense held strong on two Woodinville drives for the remaining few minutes of the game with a long pass batted down by Knutson to WIN the game.
Eastlake will take on Mt Si at home next Wednesday, Sept 20, at 5:30. Please come out and show your pride.
