The Wolves Freshmen football lost a close one to Skyline on Wednesday giving them their 3rd loss of the season.

The 1st quarter started out strong for Eastlake with an interception by Leroy Jackson on Skyline’s opening drive.  The Wolves, however, couldn’t convert and turned the ball over on downs.  The defense stayed strong and held Skyline on 4th down after huge tackles by Hayden Veal and Will Doran. Eastlake took over on the Skyline 5 yard line but unfortunately the offense couldn’t sustain a drive and had to punt.  The Spartans answered with a long pass for a TD and took a 8-0 lead to end the 1st quarter.

The Wolves started the 2nd quarter with a strong offensive drive but again fell short of the end zone.  Eastlake’s Jack Lathwell had a great punt and pinned Skyline at their own 2 yard line.  Skyline drove the length of the field including a 4th and goal attempt and scored with 4 mins left in the half giving them a 14-0 lead.  Eastlake had a strong return and started their drive on the Skyline 40 yard line.  Eastlake looked to be driving the ball before the half after a huge 4th down conversion by Trent Nicholson but unfortunately turned the ball over at the Skyline 25.  Skyline fortunately ran out of time and the half ended with Skyline up 14-0.

The Wolves defense came out strong to start the 2nd half.  Joey Grzetic broke up a long pass play to force Skyline to punt in their opening series.  Eastlake wasted no time and after a long run by Jackson Proctor and a 1st down reception by Max Verboort they were in the red zone.  Proctor capped the drive off with a  25 yard TD pass to Alex Piavis to cut Skyline’s lead in half, 14-7.  Skyline’s next possession ended on a turnover on downs after the Eastlake defense kept them out of the end zone and a big 4th down stop.  Eastlake took over on the Skyline 20 yard line with 6 mins left in the 3rd.  Wasting no time, Proctor stepped back and threw a 75 yard TD reception to Verboort for a quick score and to tie the game 14-14.  Eastlake scored quickly again taking a 21-14 lead.  Skyline unfortunately answered with a 4th and goal pass for a TD.  Their 2pt conversion was good and they took the lead back with 4 mins left in the 4th, 22-21.  Eastlake got the ball back with plenty of time to come back and score and put together what looked to be a promising drive.  However, they turned the ball over at midfield and gave the ball back to Skyline with mins on the clock.  Skyline took advantage and put the game away with a TD and 2 pt conversion.  Eastlake was able to score again on a quick TD but ran out of time giving Skyline the 30-27 win.

Eastlake will look to get back on track against North Creek at home next Wednesday at 5:30.  Please come out and show your pride.
